Hello friends! I have written the inside dust jacket letter below, because I don't know if I can describe my experience at the Ryman more clearly than I do inside the album, but I should say a few words about the vinyl and the record club. I have been blown away by how many people have joined this dream of mine, to create a community of music lovers who trust my taste in music. To get to share this live album, our first one as a band, with all of you, is a dream realize. I love the way it turned out on vinyl, and I hope you will cherish it as much as I do. You people are the best. Honored to have you in my corner.
The Ryman is one of very few holy places for me. I have seen over 35 shows there as a fan. The first one was Ryan Adams. Shortly thereafter, the second one was my first date with Ellie to see Patty Griffin in 2005. In the last 10 years, I have seen Tom Waits, Kris Kristofferson, Death Cab for Cutie, The Flaming Lips, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, David Gray, Bob Dylan, Amos Lee, Needtobreathe, The Swell Season, Jack White, Elvis Costello, and numerous other legends. Honestly, I never had the courage to dream that we would ever headline our own show there. It seemed like too much to ask. I was wrong to not have that dream.
Coming out onstage that night was the most humbling experience of my life. 2,400 people singing along to our songs. These are songs I bled over, songs that told my story, and songs my band poured their hearts and talents into. We recorded the show just in case it was as magical as we had hoped it would be. It was. This live record is a long time coming. We have played well over a thousand shows over the years, but it never felt right to release a live record. Now is the right time. The Ryman was the right night. We hope you enjoy listening to the show as much as we enjoyed performing it.
